Re: Smoking
Thu, March 27, 2008 - 1:26 PMChewing and sucking on cardamom seeds can cool the system and give the mouth a hit it needs to replace nicotine.Any smoking will aggravate the lungs, Kappha's domain, Smoke is air and fire- vata+pitta -Vata predominates in this instance. Om shanti, Jody

Re: Smoking
Sun, March 30, 2008 - 2:02 PMThere is a whole chapter in Ayurveda (Charaka Samhita) that deals with therapeutic smoking, I believe it is called dhuman, it is actually prescribed for kapha disorders, congestion, head cold etc.. because the hot, light, dry quality can reduce mucus and clear the head and sinuses, these same qualities can easily aggravate Vata and Pitta if done excessively or improperly, do to dry heat. -

Re: Smoking
Fri, June 6, 2008 - 8:19 AMI was of the impression that it isn't tobacco that they use for Kapha treatments.
Do you know of any good herb blends/classic formulations to smoke? The only classic "recipe" I can think of at the momemt is Dashmula, but that's for basti, not smoking, right?
(it's pretty early for me to be up and typing here.)
I am genuinely curious because I recently picked up clove cigarettes about twice a week after nearly 3 years of not smoking at all. My Kapha is whacked, but is being pushed by even more whacked Vata.
I am naturally a Kapha-Pitta. Only in the past month have I noticed my Pitta picking up, it's been down ever since the birth of my last child (April '06).
I'm thinking I'm craving something warming and drying, but I'd rather not smoke tobacco. I'd also prefer not to make my Vata madness worse.
Whatchoo think?

Re: Smoking
Tue, April 15, 2008 - 11:27 AMThe glory of smoking is that when the stress of emotions come to the lungs to be released then the smoke pushes them into circulation and when they find a weak space, khavaigunya, then the emotion can hang out there. In India, yogis use smoke as an anupan, delivery substance for mantras instead of for stuffing stress and emotions. there are also some herbs that can be added to tobacco to lessen the hot, sharp, penetrating, and subtle qualities as to not aggravate pitta and vata as much. Om shanti shanti shanti, Daneal
