I have a question about which milk should I use to increase Shukra Dhatu.
It has been mentioned here that milk needs to be boiled before consumption... at the same time it is also mentioned that unpasteurized and unhomogenized milk is the best. My question is - if the milk needs to be boiled then i could just buy regular milk instead of unpasteurized milk right? also does raw milk have Vitamin D?

Re: Milk to increase Shukra Dhatu
Sat, July 12, 2008 - 9:05 AMThe boiling recommendation has come from traditional Indian culture, where milk is bought raw. The milk is just brought to a boil and then heat is shut off. The temperature (boiling point) is *much* lower than flash pasteurization, and the milk retains its healthy properties. Homogenized milk is just a bad idea. I can drink milk in India just fine (both cow and buffalo milk), but when I drink commercial organic milk in the US, I develop symptoms of lactose intolerance.
Just get raw milk from Whole Foods, heat on low until the milk starts to boila and foam, switch off heat and let cool. Later you can drink after heating it with dry ginger, ashwagandha, jaggery, cardamom, black pepper. Or make a beverage with powdered almonds added to milk with the previous ingredients. -

Re: Milk to increase Shukra Dhatu
Sat, July 12, 2008 - 9:15 AMit isn't possible to buy raw milk in the store, fda requires pasteurization. try and get organic and non-homogenzied which is possible in many areas but not all. ideally if you live in an area that has farms, see if there is a farmer in your area willing to sell you milk in raw form. often the technical legality of it is to say that it is for animal and not human consumption, there is probably some links or information about your particular area online if you google food shares/csa/organic farm/etc + the name of your town. good luck! after years and years of drinking "milk" from the supermarket, nothing compares to the real thing once you have had it!

Re: Milk to increase Shukra Dhatu
Sat, July 12, 2008 - 9:29 AMI saw that you got some very good replies about building shukra dhatu, but for long term, ashwagandha ghee is an excellent rasayana. Here's a recipe:
Ashwagandha Ghee
500 g coarse poweder
100 g fine powder
250 g ghee
1 liter cow's milk
Boil Ashwagandha powder in 4 liters of water to obtain one liter of decoction. Separately make a paste of fine ashwagandha powder in water. Add this paste to the filtered decoction followed by ghee, milk and heat until the fatty matter is free from moisture.

Re: Milk to increase Shukra Dhatu
Sat, July 12, 2008 - 5:30 PMRaw milk as it emerges from a cow is warm ( at about 38DC). Raw milk from healthy cows extracted by clean hands in clean vessels is considered best milk to consume. But once Raw milk cools down it can start developing bacteria which could be harmful. It is then suggested that such milk should be heated on very slow fire to near boiling point and then used for drinking as hot or warm milk. Such milk retains the maximum beneficial contents of the original raw milk. These could perhaps be called probiotic bacteria. Probiotic bacteria can be enhanced further by helping raw milk to become a curd. Curd or Yogurt has better digestibility, than milk.
I have yet another question about what is the connection between ejaculation and ojas and prostate gland function.
As a starter Ayurvedic tradition holds that veerya is very precious and should not be lost from the human body. The quality and quantity of veerya is said to be directly related to vitality , health, alertness of brain, and fertility . Veerya is said to exist all over the body.Is veerya the same as semen? Does an ejaculate consist of veerya.
Scientists tell us that there is substance called prostaglandin. It got the name prostaglandin because it was discovered for the first time in solutions of ground prostate gland. Scientists at that point of time thought that this substance they called prostaglandin was made by and stored in the prostate gland . Later researches showed that this prostaglandin existed distributed all over in the human body, and acts as a lubricant in the muscles to smoothen the physical movement of the muscles. When any vigorous physical or emotional activity required more lubricant to be used by the muscles in that part of the body, other parts of the human body chip in so to say by releasing prostaglandin in their muscles to assist that part of the body which is using more of it in the vigorous activity. This prostaglandin released by the other areas of human body is burnt as fuel by the muscles which were exercised. After the physical activity if there is any extra surplus prostagladin it can not be pumped back to the other parts of the human body who had donated it in the first place. All such unused surplus prostaglandin goes for storage in the prostate gland, from where it gradually is assimilated back in the body. In artherites the medicine prescribed is Ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is called a prostaglandin blocker. That means it does not allow prostaglandin to drain from the muscles and thus ensures the presence of muscle lubricant all over the body.
Human brain and Semen both are mainly constituted by Phospho Lipids. The phospholipids are related to food containing Omega 3, fish , green leafy vegetables and milk of grass fed cows. Ayurveda also talks about Urdwareta ( A process in which Retas ie veerya is made to rise to the top- go to brain). Ayurveda suggests that by conscious self control and celibate practice veerya can be made to rise to our brain. That provides vigour and Ojas to us.
Is there some way one can synthesise the Ayurvedic ideas and terminology with modern science? -

Re: Milk to increase Shukra Dhatu
Sat, July 12, 2008 - 11:10 PMYes, raw milk does contain Vit D. Fortified milk is unnecessary IMO. Indians and other south asians grow up just fine drinking milk as nature created it =)
