Re: Need Reccomendation for NYC Ayurvedic bodywork/spa
Wed, August 13, 2008 - 10:18 PM"Ayurvedic bodywork"?? Do you mean authentic Panchakarma, or some bastardized, commercialzed version of Ayur Vidya?
Dr. Svoboda said it best:
"Yoga has already been extensively subjected to this process; Ayurveda's turn has now arrived. Open any "New Age" publication and you will find within a plethora of advertisements for Ayurvedic practitioners, counselors, body workers, and detoxification specialists. New "Ayurvedic" supplements appear daily, and spas of every ilk are rushing to add "panchakarma" treatments to their product lines. Sadly, the majority of these resources are Ayurvedic in name alone."
(from www.drsvoboda.com/ayurveda-...ation.htm)
Anyway, Scott Gerson, M.D, Ph.D, is probably the best and most experienced true vaidya practising authentic Ayurveda in the NY area. He has Panchakarma retreats. niam.com/corp-web/index.htm

Wed, August 20, 2008 - 7:08 AMHey Radha,
There is also The Chopra Center and Spa at the Dream Hotel in NYC... www.chopracenterny.com
The practice of Ayurvedic Beauty Concepts is ages old and is not necessarily all bastardized. Abhyanga, the oil massage, and treatments such as Shirodhara and Marma Point Therapy, which is all "bodywork", are all done here. As far as Spas go, this is your best bet for authentic treatments.
Namaste,
