I am wondering what Ayurvedic herbs are used in treatment of a sebaceous cyst.
The western herbs prescribed for both internal and external use are plantain leaf, Goldenseal, pokeroot (phytolacca) and comfrey. The herbs can be taken as tea or in capsules and can be made into a paste with bentonite clay to be applied externally.
What are the ayurvedic counterparts to these herbs and method of administration?
Also, what other treatments would you recommend?

Re: Treatment for Sebaceous Cyst
Wed, September 12, 2007 - 9:51 PMCysts are generally formed due to vitiated kapha. They usually contain sticky fluid. If you puncture and drain a cyst, it has tendency to recur. Threefold reatment plan is recommended for cysts as follows:
Panchakarma (recommended for repeated or multiple cysts) – Vaman (induced vomiting) and Ratamokshan (blood letting with the help of leech or venipuncture).
Local treatment with Lepa with herbs such as aguru, darvi, and guggul.
Internal treatment with herbs such as kanchanar, latakaranja, and chitrak.
Sequence of treatment plan and use of herbs must be decided according to prakruti and dosha imbalance.
Surgical removal is certainly an option especially for a solitary cyst, whereby cyst is removed along with its capsule, so that it will not recur.
