Re: Looking for a Shirodhara dispenser
Wed, February 14, 2007 - 2:01 PMMake one from a small fish tank pump and some rubber hose, then allow the oil to recirculate back into a small catch tank for reapplication. -

Re: Looking for a Shirodhara dispenser
Fri, February 16, 2007 - 6:15 PMSounds good, but I do need a pretty one, as it is for a swanky spa. I know how to make one from a flower pot, a cocconut, and a rope, but even this does not suite my boss. Your idea is even better because it automatically circulates the oil, but for my purposes right now that probably won't do.

Could you possibly post a pic of your teachers shirodhara unit ? My brain is not visualising it properly but it sounds brilliant.
Thanks,

Re: Looking for a Shirodhara dispenser
Mon, February 26, 2007 - 12:16 AMThat's some expensive coconuts.
A good shiro unit should have the following:
1. Copper vessel, some gold or silver would be nice, but copper has many beneficial qualities.
2. Quiet recirculating pump.
3. Temperature control that is adjustable and keeps oil at a steady temperature.
4. Be easy to clean and disassemble.
Or you can try the India method:
coconut shell, sauce pan, hot plate, plastic tub for collecting oil.

Its not the coconuts you pay for. Its how its been put together. They are coconuts from the holy island of Ratnadipa, ritualy blessed by the sadhu's that live in the deep mountain caves. These coconuts are connected by a rope fashioned from twine and human hair that has been collected from the most Holy Inner Forest of Ratnadipa. The collecting reservoir is crafted from the skull of a cow that is garanteed to have peacefully completed its days on this earth (died of old age). The oil is a secret recipe that has been passed down the generations for thousands of years, but a large part is a mixture of the purest palmoil and the sweetest Ghi.

I don't know what you mean by "the" India method (see explanation above).

Re: Looking for a Shirodhara dispenser
Mon, February 26, 2007 - 11:16 PMYou left out the part about Raksasa pounding on the coconuts to perfectly break them in half.
A shirodhara is in order for you. -

Re: Looking for a Shirodhara dispenser
Wed, March 7, 2007 - 9:51 AMmaybe you have figured it out already but my friend has a whole set up that you can order from the u.s. her website is ajaraskincare.com
if possible i recommend pouring rather than pumping. it is very meditative, profound, has a sense of safety and awareness for the client.
And if you are interested in training for dhrana/pouring, i am available to train and help with the set up. I have worked and trained at the ayurvedic institute in new mexico.
many blessings -

Sat, March 10, 2007 - 8:54 PMThanx for the website Ceci. They have a good deal on pumps. I may just order the bowels from a company in India. Thanx for the training offer, but I already went to school for it in India, I just need a good deal on the equipment. I can get this stuff really cheap in India, but shipping is a real !@$$. -

Sun, March 18, 2007 - 12:09 PMMy friend handbuilds these systems. He started about a year ago because he could not find one for his own practice that was beautiful and affordable. His prices are very reasonable. If you email me directly I can give you the phone #. (He is not on tribe)
