          That's some expensive coconuts.

A good shiro unit should have the following:

          1. Copper vessel, some gold or silver would be nice, but copper has many beneficial qualities.

          2. Quiet recirculating pump.

          3. Temperature control that is adjustable and keeps oil at a steady temperature.

          4. Be easy to clean and disassemble.

Or you can try the India method:
coconut shell, sauce pan, hot plate, plastic tub for collecting oil.

Its not the coconuts you pay for. Its how its been put together. They are coconuts from the holy island of Ratnadipa, ritualy blessed by the sadhu's that live in the deep mountain caves. These coconuts are connected by a rope fashioned from twine and human hair that has been collected from the most Holy Inner Forest of Ratnadipa. The collecting reservoir is crafted from the skull of a cow that is garanteed to have peacefully completed its days on this earth (died of old age). The oil is a secret recipe that has been passed down the generations for thousands of years, but a large part is a mixture of the purest palmoil and the sweetest Ghi.

I don't know what you mean by "the" India method (see explanation above).

maybe you have figured it out already but my friend has a whole set up that you can order from the u.s. her website is ajaraskincare.com
if possible i recommend pouring rather than pumping. it is very meditative, profound, has a sense of safety and awareness for the client.
And if you are interested in training for dhrana/pouring, i am available to train and help with the set up. I have worked and trained at the ayurvedic institute in new mexico.
    many blessings
